Lotsa, Molly and Rudy
Before
A complaint about 4 emaciated horses warranted an investigation in early summer this year in far northwestern Illinois. "It's bad", the investigator said, "it's bad". A notice of violation was issued but the owner ignored it. Follow-up calls and repeat complaints about the starving horses put a plan into action. The SA, contacted by HAHS, initiated an emergency impound of the not just 4, but 8 starving horses. Removed from their miserable existence on a bare dirt pasture and filthy stalls with no water and only cut weeds to eat, the 5 stallions and 3 mares were transported to facilities were they were re-introduced to proper nutrition, received emergency medical treatments and farrier care.
After
2 court dates later a judge ordered the horses to be returned to the owner under the weekly supervision of HAHS. HAHS however was able to have the owner relinquish 2 stallions and one mare. These stallions, now geldings, and the mare are en-route to HAHS at this writing. They will continue with their rehabilitation here at the farm and will hopefully find their loving forever home soon. The remaining 5 horses are being checked on weekly. A December court date will determine their fate. Hopefully it will be in favor of the ones that have no voice. The horses!
