The Winnebago Five

Animal neglect charges warranted an impoundment in Cherry Valley, by the Winnebago County Animal Services, of five mares in early November 2006. All five mares were found in a corral up to their knees in manure, emaciated with ribs and hips showing. HAHS agreed to further their rehabilitation.

The pony Hippie is about 20 years of age and her best friend Lulu the jenny is estimated to be 3. A black and white Appaloosa, Oreo, is 2. She is very loving. The buckskin Appaloosa, Chloe, is a 3 year old mare and has been lunged and saddled. Sienna rounds out the bunch, a 20 something mare who has foundered in the past is on medication for Cushing's disease. All 5 are happy here at HAHS.
