Dimples and Belle

Why?

Belle and Dimples shortly after arrivalBefore
In November 2006 two severely emaciated mares were relinquished in Bond County, Illinois. The Department of Agriculture's investigator contacted us as it was his intentions to have these 2 mares relinquished into our custody. The owner of the mares was in prison, but the investigator located him and had the mares signed over to HAHS. A four day layover at a local vet's farm provided dentistry work on them and physical evaluation. They are sweet girls with a terrific disposition. Their ages were estimated at 18.

Dimples happy and healthyAfter
Belle was evaluated at the UW Veterinary Hospital and we were told that she had muscle atrophy in her right front leg. Lame in both front legs, she also had severe degenerative arthritic changes in both of her knees. Bute twice daily did not give her the imrpovement we had hoped for, so with a heavy heart, Belle was euthanized.
Dimples, a red chestnut quarter horse had heaves upon her arrival at HAHS. She is treated with medication and does not show any infirmities. She bucks, kicks and runs when the barometer changes and is still looking for a permanent home.
