The Old Gray Mares

They Ain't What They Used To Be

Mabel during rescueBefore
Mid October Ginger and Mabel stepped off the trailer at HAHS. They were relinquished rather than complying with the State's standards of care. Both mares were extremely thin even though they had spent a two week lay-up at our investigator's farm where they were de-wormed and were started ion a re-feeding program. Mabel looked the worst with hips, ribs and tail head showing very little, if any, fat covering these areas. Ginger, a small flea bit pony, also made an unthrifty appearance.

Ginger and Mabel have come a long way. Both are broke to ride and have been aged by the dentist as 10 and 15 years respectively.
