Red and Blue
Abandonment Is Also Neglect
Before
Unlike most of the animals that HAHS takes in, Red, a chestnut gelding, and Blue, a paint mare, were not being starved or abused, they were simply abandoned. After their owner lost his job as a farm caretaker, he left the farm, leaving behind many of his belongings and his two horses. The farm owners spent several months trying to get him to come pick up the horses, as well as his other possessions, and then finally asked us to take the horses. Red and Blue were already in good condition when we arrived - they are such young, lively horses it is hard to imagine anyone abandoning them.
After
Like all the horses that come to us, Red and Blue spent two weeks in quarantine when they arrived, and then moved out into a pasture with other horses. They now live with our mustangs, and have the run of our largest pasture. Blue loves people - we recently learned that she used to be called "Pockets," and it is easy to see why - she is a little bit nosey, and always wants attention. Red will also often come up to greet people that stop by their pasture.
