Tulip, Rough and Ready
GOATS RESCUED FROM CHICAGO
Before
In April of 2003, Chicago Animal Care and Control brought us three goats that they had found roaming the streets of Chicago. Tulip, a female goat, Rough, a neutered male angora goat, and Ready, a female angora goat, were all in poor physical condition and wary of humans when they arrived. Rough managed to escape from the animal control officer who was trying to put him in his new home, and led HAHS staff on a chase around the farm before he could be captured. For the first several weeks they were here, Rough and Ready cowered in the back of their pen every time a person came near them, and made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with humans. It was obvious that they had not had good experiences with people in the past.
After
As soon as Tulip had been rehabilitated, she was adopted out to a good home. Rough and Ready remained here and slowly became friendlier towards people as they realized that the people around them were friends who brought them food and water. After the goats were sheared, it became apparent that Ready, the female, was indeed ready...to have a baby. She gave birth to a healthy female kid on July 12, 2003, the day of the baby shower for our foal Hopscotch. All of the goats are now doing very well. Rough, who tried to run away when he first arrived, is now friendly enough to approach people, and the kid is full of energy and bounces all over the place.
