Mr. Bill
Goat Finds Haven
Before
Imagine the surprise when a staff member pulled into the HAHS driveway one Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. and found a small white goat tethered to the fence! At first she thought it was a Jack Russell terrier as he had some brown and black on his head. But there was no mistaking the loud bleating that greeted her when she walked over to investigate. "Mr. Bill" had a bright red harness on and a tipped plastic bowl indicated that he had been left food or water. She soon found out that he was quite socialized as he bounded into the back seat of her truck for the ride around the building to the office entrance. He seemed to be in very good condition, especially considering she did not know how long he had been outside.
After
Mr. Bill went to the top barn at HAHS near Mike and Eddy, our inseparable Nubian goats. We soon found out that he was a typical goat - into everything and quite the escape artist, due in large part to his small size! Our Farm Fest was the following week and we were sure that someone would fall in love and decide to adopt him.
Our expectations were correct; within a few weeks one of our members who had recently lost a goat was interested. We drove him to his new home soon thereafter, where he was to share the barn with two sheep, a large Nubian (some of you may remember Picasso), and a pet calf. He was slowly introduced to each animal, one by one, and it was immediately clear that he could easily hold his own. Everyone was very interested in Mr. Bill (who was instantly renamed "Pan") and whether the feelings were mutual or not, all are co-existing beautifully!
