Rambo

The Rescue of Rambo, a Junkyard Find

Before

Rambo resided in a junkyard with little to eat except a partially disintegrated hay bale encrusted with black mold. These less-than-perfect conditions, according to a complaint in mid-March of 2004 from Winnebago County, Ill., contained, "a thin palomino, with backbone and hips showing."  The aged equine had a distended, worm-filled belly and the horse leaned heavily against the round-bale feeder, most of his strength sapped due to malnutrition.  Abdomen heaving, nostrils flaring, Rambo struggled for breath, suffering from heaves.

After

After receiving Rambo, HAHS took several steps to nurse him back to health. Step one included feeding a menu of high-quality hay and grain to restore him to proper health. Step two required shrinking Rambo's huge belly by administering dewormer to him in two phases (for safety). And the third step called for some dentistry work that solved his teeth problems.   And as of May 2004, only a month after he arrived, Rambo successfully put on weight and looks sleek and happy - as a Southern gentleman should.
