Dunny Boy

Dunny Boy

Before
Dunny upon arrival at HAHSWhen humane investigators from Waukesha County, Wisconsin, checked out a complaint about a thin horse, they found a 28-year-old half Arabian gelding with prominent rib, shoulder and hip bones; a potbelly; and a long, curly hair coat.  The owner's deteriorating health, along with the belief that the horse was in bad shape because he was "just old," had resulted in poor care.  When the investigators offered him a way out of the situation (relinquishment), he accepted.

After
Awesome recoveryAn agreement was made between HAHS and the Waukesha County Humane Officer Program:  HAHS would pick the horse up in a couple of weeks when space became available and until then, Waukesha County investigators would ensure the horse was getting proper care.  Eventually HAHS was able to bring him back to the farm where he went through a careful rehabilitation process including measured portions of good quality food, dentistry, deworming and diagnostics and treatment for Cushing's Disease.  Despite his extremely thin condition, he is full of life, proving that old age doesn't mean a thing.
