Valley View Acres Fire Press Release

HAHS staff member, Brittany Olson, found out about the stable fire at Valley View Acres, on Mt. Thabor Rd in Woodstock, via a Facebook post around 1:20am, early Sunday morning. Realizing that professional equine rescue help would be needed, she immediately mobilized the HAHS team. HAHS staff members Dawn Van Wazer, Jenna Letzter, and Brittany Olson loaded rescue equipment into two trucks and horse trailers and headed to the scene of the barn fire. Around 2am, upon arrival, staff members unfortunately found the barn completely demolished by the fire, having already taken the lives of 32 beautiful horses. HAHS staff offered Valley View Acres barn owner, Amber Bauman, every available resource, offering to load the 5 surviving horses into the HAHS trailers, and transport them to the Hooved Animal Humane Society, until suitable boarding was found. Amber, under the advice of a visiting veterinarian, decided to leave the 5 remaining horses in an adjacent pasture for the night, in the hopes that it would prevent further stressing the equines. Realizing that Mrs. Bauman had lost all of her tack, including her horse handling gear, HAHS left several lead ropes and halters for the surviving horses. HAHS will be collecting donations for Valley View Acres starting immediately. We will accept any donations, such as hay, tack, or monetary. We are located at 10804 McConnell Rd. in Woodstock, IL, and our phone number is (815) 337-5563. Our facility will be open for donation drop offs between 9am and 4pm. Please stay tuned for further details.
