Seminars, Workshops and Clinics
Several times a month, HAHS hosts educational events right on the farm. These events range from educational seminars to photography workshops to horsemanship clinics. There are activities both for horse owners and people who appreciate horses but have little or no experience with them.
The seminars that HAHS hosts focus on subjects from horse health to horse breeds and conformation. Past seminar topics have included “Trends in Horseshoeing,” “Holistic Health,” “Meet Your Mustang,” and “Is There a Horse in Your Future?”. Photography workshops by Robyn Adair Cook, a well-known horse photographer, have also been very popular, as have the Richard Shrake and Pat Parelli clinics that HAHS has hosted. In addition, volunteers get to learn about horses through the horse-handling seminars that the staff puts on for them several times a year.
HAHS also reaches out to children. The yearly Youth Equine Expo, which began in 2001, gives children information about the horse industry. Members of local 4-H clubs, Pony Clubs, and other associations get together to learn about careers in the equine industry, opportunities for fundraising, and, of course, horse health. "How to Draw a Horse" is another children’s event we have hosted, in which children of all ages and all levels of experience with horses get a chance to learn how to draw their favorite animals.
HAHS takes its show out on the road, too, setting up its educational booth at a variety of places such as the Illinois Horse Fair and the Danada Fall Festival. Many times, representatives of HAHS make presentations at these equine expos or perform a demonstration with one of the HAHS animals.
