Volunteer at HAHS

The HAHS Volunteer Program

Whether you want to learn more about animals, meet others like yourself, reduce stress with physical activity, or simply make a difference in the life of a neglected animal, we (and the animals!) really appreciate your interest. You must be at least 16 years old to become a HAHS Volunteer.

To become a HAHS volunteer, you must attend one of our Volunteer Information Sessions. At these sessions,   we introduce you to HAHS (our mission, our farm, and our animals), invite a few of our current volunteers to speak about their experiences, and tell you what to expect from volunteering at HAHS. For example, we ask that all volunteers work at least five hours per month. Volunteers are not allowed to ride or work  the horses, however, Volunteers are allowed to groom certain animals.  Some of the volunteer jobs include:
                       a)  mucking stalls,
                       b)  picking pastures,
                       c)  raking leaves,
                       d)  scrubbing water buckets,
                       e)  stuffing envelopes,
                       f)   weeding flowerbeds,
                       g)  working events.

If interested, a HAHS volunteer will complete a volunteer application following the orientation. A Horse Handling Class usually takes place immediately after the open volunteer session. It stresses the importance of safety around the HAHS animals.

In memory of SandyThe last 2011 Volunteer Orientation and Horse Handling date will be on October 8th.  The session starts at 9am and lasts about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Reservation is not required.

Tentative dates for 2012 are as follows: April 14th, May 12th, July 14th and September 8th.
