A frantic caller, who refused to leave his vantage point until someone sent help, reported the apparent neglect of six walking equine skeletons at an upscale Barrington location.
The Hooved Animal Humane Society, the Lake County Sheriff's Department and Lake
County Animal Care and Control removed all six horses, who looked as though they were literally starving to death. All 6 were transported to the UWM large animal equine hospital for immediate, medical evaluation. The staff at UW determined that none of the six had any underlying condition. They determined that the cause of their condition was lack of nutrition.
One horse, the oldest of 6, collapes at the hospital and had to be placed in a sling for a couple of days. Several horses have heart murmurs, likely due to lack of nutrition. As we write this, the condition of all 6 is stable and their prognosis is guardedly optimistic.
